ORCALAB…
Outpost Media also is proud to represent the stock footage of OrcaLab on Hanson Island, British Columbia, Canada’s top shop for benign killer whale research since 1969. Founded and directed by famed research pioneer Dr. Paul Spong and orca acoustics specialist Helena Symonds, OrcaLab employs one of the most extensive hydrophone and passive video arrays in the world, capturing sounds and images of killer whales via fixed underwater cameras — “orca eavesdropping,” with the whales for the most part unaware they’re being watched and recorded. And of course, never being disrupted by human activities. It all makes for fascinating glimpses into the lives of these majestic creatures.
OrcaLab also has an extraordinary library of surface footage, again capturing undisturbed behavior from these orcas — as well as Dall’s porpoises, Pacific white-sided dolphins, humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, and a menagerie of seabirds. It’s footage that one can only capture by living in a spectacular place like this.
